Saxon Chocolate Line

When Stacey and I were at the show in Toronto, we came across this great food booth. The product was the Saxon chocolate line. We already carry there variety of nuts an marshmellows in the store presently, and they are well recieved. We decided to bring in some fun summer products. Well they have arrived!

We recieved the Ice Cream Cone Toppers which include Belgian chocolate, chocolate crisps, chopped hazelnuts and toffee bits. Everything you need to dress up your ice cream cones.

Another great camp fire item is the Belgian chocolate SMORES. These delightfully crsip graham crackers seal the deal with Belgian chocolate and hand cut marshmellows! The perfect fireside treat!

The third item is the frozen drink mix. This includes one bag each dark chocolate and vanilla white chocolate mix. You just need a blender, ice, and the drink mix to make your own icy treat. There are also some great recipe ideas as well to make this one of the best summer treats!

May Flowers, April Showers – Nip Your Allergies in the Bud

Tips to Reduce Your Allergy Triggers:
`        Don’t hang laundry outside- pollen can stick to towels and sheets.
`        Remove clothes you’ve worn outside & shower to rinse pollen from your hair and skin.
`        Avoid outdoor activity in the early morning when pollen counts are the highest.
`        Check on TV or the Internet for pollen forecasts & current pollen levels- If high pollen counts are forecasted, start taking allergy medications BEFORE your symptoms start!!
`        Stay indoors on dry, windy days- the best time to go outside is after it rains, as this helps clean pollen from the air.
`        Use a portable high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter in your bedroom.
`        Keep indoor air dry with a dehumidifier.
`        For advice on some over-the-counter options for treating seasonal allergies, consult a Sereda’s Pharmacy Pharmacist or your family physician.

Tick Talk – How to Prevent Becoming an Untimely Host

ü      Stay out of wooded or grassy areas.
ü      Wear long sleeves and long pants if you are in an area where ticks are common.  Shower as soon as you come indoors.  Ticks often remain on your skin for hours before attaching themselves….
ü      Keep your pets on a leash and don’t let them wander in tall weeds and grass.
ü      Apply an insect repellent with a 10 to 30 % concentration of DEET to your skin AND clothing. (A 10% concentration protects for about 2 hours). DO NOT use DEET on the hands of young children or on infants younger than 2 months.
ü      Tick-proof your yard by clearing branches and leaves, and keep woodpiles in sunny areas.

Tick Talk…You Got Caught…
1.  Remove the tick promptly and carefully. Use tweezers to grasp the tick near its head and pull gently to remove the WHOLE tick without crushing it.  Removing an attached tick within 48 hours decreases your risk of Lyme Disease.
2.  If possible, seal the tick in a jar. Your doctor may want to see the tick if you develop signs or symptoms of illness after a tick bite.
3.  Use soap and water to wash your hands and the area around the tick bite after handling the tick.
4.  Call your doctor if you aren't able to completely remove the tick.

The Sun Is Out – Time To Get Your Sunscreen Out!!

DID YOU KNOW that….
è    Canadians born in the 1990’s have 2 to 3 times higher lifetime of getting skin cancer vs those born in the 1960’s.  Those born in 1990: 1 in 6 lifetime risk of having cancer; those born in the 1960’s have a 1 in 20 lifetime risk.
è    Melanoma is now the 7th most frequent cancer in Canada, affecting 5,300 people in 2010 and causing 920 deaths.
è    Excessive ultraviolet (UV) exposure from the sun & tanning beds plays a leading role in the development of melanoma and IS the MOST PREVENTABLE CAUSE of this disease.
è    Getting a “base tan” for a winter holiday is a MYTH!! There is NO scientific evidence this protects from burning in the sun.

Protect Yourself by:
è    Avoiding exposure to the sun between 10 a.m and 4 p.m
è    Covering up- wear tightly woven clothing that covers your arms and legs, and a hat (preferably wide-brimmed).
è    Using sunscreen frequently and generously- Use a broad-spectrum (UVA and UVB) sunscreen with an SPF 30 OR greater, as recommended by the Canadian Dermatology Association.
o       For a listing of sunscreens approved by the CDA, please visit:
è    Wearing sunglasses when outdoors- look for a manufacturer’s label that states the sunglasses block 99 or 100 % of all UV light.  Choose sunglasses that fit close to your face.
