Traveling or Camping this Summer? Some Helpful Items to take with you...

- An oral antihistamine,such as Benadryl for severe reactions to bug bites
- Hydrocortisone 0.5% cream for itchy, red skin due to bug bites or sunburn
- Mosquito spray containing DEET (at least 10%)
- An antinauseant, such as Gravol for car sickness or upset stomach
- Packets of Gastrolyte or bottles of Gatorade to keep hydrated if severe vomiting/diarrhea occurs
- An antidiarrheal, such as Immodium
- Acid reducers, such as Zantac, Tums, or Gaviscon for heartburn
- Pain relievers, such as Tylenol or Advil for headaches, fever and muscle aches and pains
- Thermometer to check for fever
- An antibiotic cream, such as Polysporin for scrapes or other wounds
- First Aid Kit
- Saline solution/spray for cleaning wounds
- Sunscreen SPF 15 or higher
- Aloe gel to sooth sunburns
- Eye drops, such as Visine or Tears Naturale for red, irritated eyes

Keep Yourself Hydrated this Summer with Water!

Instead of choosing high calorie sodas and fruit beverages, drink water!  Water makes up sixty percent of your body weight and every system in your body depends on it.  Water flushes toxins out of vital organs, carries nutrients to your cells, and keeps your ears, nose, mouth and throat moist.  A lack of water in your body can lead to dehydration and prevent your body from carrying out normal functions.  Even mild dehydration can drain your energy and make you feel tired.

How much water should you drink?

ü      For your body to function properly, you must replace the water your body uses to breathe, sweat, and produce urine and bowel movements.  On average, an adult needs 8 to 9 cups per day.  This amount may increase during periods of illness, such as fever or diarrhea, exercise, and hot or humid weather. 

ü      In general, as long as you drink enough fluid so you rarely feel thirsty and produce at least 1.5 liters (6.3 cups) or more of colorless or slightly yellow urine per day, your fluid intake is most likely adequate. 

ü      Another point to keep in mind is that 20 percent of your fluid intake comes from the food you eat, so you don’t have to rely only on what you drink to meet your daily fluid requirements.  For example many fruits and vegetables, such as watermelon, are more than 90 percent or more water by weight.

To prevent dehydration this summer, follow these 4 easy tips:

ü      Drink water before, during, and after exercise

ü      Drink a glass of water with each meal and between each meal

ü      Don’t use thirst alone as a guide- by the time you become thirsty, you may be slightly dehydrated

ü      Limit the amount of alcoholic beverages at social gatherings and try substituting alcoholic drinks with sparkling water

Pool time is here-The perfect time for a planter wart to appear

Plantar warts are small grainy lesions with black pin points in the center.  These annoying warts are found only on the soles of your feet and are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV).  This virus LOVES warm, moist areas such as locker rooms, shower floors, and public swimming areas.  To protect yourself this summer:

Ø      Don’t go barefoot in public areas- wear sandals in locker rooms and public areas

Ø      Avoid direct contact with warts- from your own or other people

Ø      Keep your feet clean and dry- change your socks and shoes daily

Ø      Don’t use the same nail clipper or file on your warts as you used on non-infected skin and nails.

Ø      The HPV virus enter through broken skin- keep cuts/scrapes, and dry, cracked skin covered with waterproof bandages and wear sandals in all public areas

We now have a new product in our makeup line. The Covergirl Naturelux liquid Foundation. This is the one that Taylor Swift promotes. It has a hint of jajoba extract and cucumber water. It gives flawless and luxrious coverage with a barely there feel to it. It also has SPF protection in it. We have quite a range of shades that would suit any skin type.

Great rubs for summer

We have a great new sampler from Gourmet Village for our Beer Can Chicken. The sampler includes the classic, Cajun Blackened Chicken, and Chipotle Maple. This way you can try one of these new rubs and decide which one is your favourite! I would also suggest brushing your chicken with one of our BBQ sauces!

We also have a new grilling rub for fish, Maple Peppercorn. This is really good for salmon or steak. Put the rub on your steak and let marinate for 1 to 2 hours. Mix seasoning with oil and rub on salmon and let marinate for 1/2 hour, then grill. This rub is also good with chicken, shrimp, and tuna. A must try.

MMMM..... YUMMY!

One of my husband's favorite BBQ sauces is the Chipotle Maple. This sauce has a smoky Chipotle flavor with a touch of maple sweetness but is not hot! We like to use this on just about everything. I like to mix equal parts BBQ sauce and apricot jam and a little of the mango curry dip and pour over chicken pieces and bake.

Also try out Beer BBQ sauce as well!
